For several years, patrons of rideshare companies have reported sexual assault during their use of the rideshare service. In 2019, Uber reported that they received 464 reports of rape in the preceding two years.

Unfortunately, the rideshare industry is rife with fake drivers and impersonation scams. This happens when a fake rideshare driver picks someone up and pretends to be their driver, and it can end in disaster. 

Rideshare companies like Uber and Lyft have been in the news for sexual assault among both riders and drivers. While these companies provide a convenient service, there are inherent safety risks that come with getting into a car with a stranger.

It makes sense that a female rider may be more comfortable with a female driver, though of course, having a female driver does not remove all threats of physical, assault, sexual assault, or sexual harassment.

Sadly, many people have reported assaults and other unsafe events that have occurred while using a rideshare service like Uber or Lyft.

In an effort to help women stay safe while using transportation services, some rideshare companies are moving away from only offering drivers, and instead, are beginning to offer driver-less rideshare services.
